The 2.6 version of Wordpress has been released about 1 month ago, many bloggers already upgraded their Wordpress blogs since the first day without any problems or bugs. So, today I decided to upgrade my blog too, even I didn’t got any problem with my old 2.3 version, but after installing the Security plugin, it gives me a red alert that push me to upgrade as soon as possible.

What I hate about upgrading is to setup back the blog and reinstall the plugins etc.. So I was looking for the easiest way that will allow to me to upgrade without any additional work, and I found it, a simple way to upgarde within one minute or less if you have a high speed Internet connection. You wanna know how? Here we go:

1. Download Wordpress 2.6 (~1.2MB)

2. Unzip it, Upload and Replace your WordPress files, except: wp-config.php file and wp-content folder.

3. Point your browser to “http://yourdomain/wp-admin/upgrade.php“. Follow the instructions on screen to continue and upgrade within seconds.

The new version is pretty cool, it have a lot of new good and useful features like the automated plugin upgrade, I also like the new admin panel colors, look and organization of options.

Google is in final negociations from the last 2 weeks to acquire Digg for about 200$ million. We heard about this information a lot during the last 6 weeks from various sources inside and outside Google. Microsoft will be the big looser in that deal as they have already tried to make an offer but seems that Google is going too far in term of the price, that will force Microsoft to step back and automatically loses the 3 years ad deal with Digg.

What do you think? Digg worth the 200$ million from Google? And what will happen if Google acquire Digg? I think it will have a big impact in the socialbookmarking world and it will also impact the search results as Google will take in consideration top Digg’s front page stories as good one, maybe!

First it should be noted that you do not have to get a domain name to have a web site. If you are on a very tight budget you can set up a site with a free provider such as your internet service provider or places like tripod and geocities which will cost you nothing. There is also the option of using free blog hosts such as Wordpress or Blogger which enables you to start blogging about any topic and the blog is hosted on their servers.

However with all the new registration companies popping up making registration cheaper and the different options you have for a domain name, if you can afford the money to get a domain name I would recommend it. These days it will only cost you about $7 for a .com. It’s even cheaper if you get yourself .info which can work very well for information based websites, you can also take a .me domain name if you want to lunch a blog to express yourself and make people know you. Some of the advantages to having a domain name are:

• More prestige, a domain name is considered, whether it is or not, more legitimate if it has its own domain name.
• More control over your, with free web site companies you have more restrictions and sometimes you will have to display their ads.
• More access to different programs - some companies that help you promote or help you earn revenue, will only accept your site if it has it’s own domain address
• A constant name, if you switch service providers your web address will change but with a domain name you can take it with you to any hosting company you choose. 
• A sellable name - although it’s not likely you’ll get the 350 million that business.com received (although this wasn’t just for the domain name, but the whole business), you can resell a domain name and if it’s something decent it will more then likely increase in value.
