The best way to receive traffic to your website is to achieve a high rank in the search engines. This will help you to receive free organic traffic to your site. There are many ways to achieve a high rank in the search engines. The use of these techniques depend upon the nature of your website and the niche. The following are some of the tips to achieve a high rank in the search engines:
(a) Site Map:
Generate a XML site map and put it on your website. Now submit the site map to Google and Yahoo so that the search engine spiders can crawl your site. If your site is large, you can make a number of site maps. The advantage of a XML site map is that it automatically updates, whenever a new page is added to the site.
(b) Start a Blog:
Search engines love blogs. You should start a blog by using either Blogger or Wordpress. As Blogger is owned by Google, a Blogger blog is easily indexed by it. Put the link to your website in the blog posts and it will be indexed by the search engines. Open accounts with social bookmarking sites like Stumbleupon, Digg, Technocrati etc. and submit your blog. Ping them when a new blog post is made. It helps to gain important back links.
(c) Good Content:
The content of your website should be good, informative and unique. Do keyword research and use the keywords in your content.
(d) Social Networking:
Open accounts with social networking sites like YouTube, Facebook, MySpace etc. Use these sites to advertise your blog or website. This will also help you to gain back links which will help to achieve a high ranking in the search engines.
(e) Links:
All the links in your website must be working. Avoid broken links as they are likely to damage your search engine rankings.
(f) Squidoo:
You can build a Squidoo lens to advertise your website.
(g) Back links:
Try to build back links through different ways, such as article submission, forum posting, social bookmarking etc. Make sure that all the links are one way links and not reciprocal links.
