February 18th, 2009What’s Going On?

You have probably noticed that my posting frequency has decreased dramatically and I’m really sorry, I have a lot of work to do these last days ( February in general ) - exams, presentations, surveys and market research for my final project, as my speciality is Economics and Management. I really feel bad that I don’t have enough time to browse the Internet in general.

So forgive the lack of posting, and thanks for sticking around! I promise to start posting decent content as soon as I can.

Internet PrivacyThe U.S. government has updated its guideline on how online services should treat the user (us) privacy.

Now, The Federal Trade Commission’s asks Web services to inform users up-front that their search data could be collected, then offer them an option to opt-out. ISPs and mobile service providers are also asked to give users a full path of what they are gathering and why, the FTC says:

You may have a contract with your ISP and everywhere you go, they can be collecting information on you

Privacy advocates are already increasing the efforts, announcing the guidelines are not enough to protect the consumer’s privacy. Some are asking for full-fledged laws surrounding privacy standards.

What do you think? Should the government get in to regulate the online privacy? Should web companies continue to take the control, as they do now?
