District of Columbia Travel Information

The District of Columbia is not a true state at all, but is the capital city of the United States of America. Possibly the most famous area in the entire country, the District of Columbia is well known for its many historical landmarks which include the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial and Arlington Cemetery.

The white house, capital building, treasury, pentagon and other important governmental buildings are located within the city limits. The District of Columbia is also famous for the Smithsonian Museum, actually a complex of museums honoring everything from pop culture to ancient history.

A walk along the reflecting pool located in the District of Columbia mall is an experience that no visitor should miss. With a rich and varied cultural and political life as well as many famous parks, memorials and statues, the District of Columbia has many visitors each year. It may be the most well visited place in the country.
