Illinois Travel Information

The 21rst state to be admitted to the Union, Illinois is located in the Midwestern part of the country. Considered to be the most populous and diverse of all the Midwestern states, Illinois is filled with smaller industrial cities and vast tracts of agricultural land.

Full of natural resources like petroleum, timber and coal, Illinois is also a major hub of transportation.  The Port of Chicago connects the Great Lakes with the Mississippi River. Oddly enough over 65% of the population of Illinois lives in the northeast corner of the state, mostly in Chicago and the surrounding area.

With a base culture of Native American’s and French, American’s began to travel to the area in the early 1800’s, founding Chicago by 1830. Statistically speaking, Illinois is considered to be the most average state in the union.

Illinois was the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln and his presidential library is located in Springfield.
