Minnesota Travel Information

With a population of just over five million, Minnesota is ranked number twenty one in the list of populations of the United States. Over 60% of its population lives in and around Minneapolis and St. Paul, meaning most of the rest of the state is rural and agrarian in nature.

Known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” Minnesota is actually named after the Dakota, a Native American Tribe, word meaning “water” Minnesota has an extremely large tourist industry with people come from the world over to experience the many lakes, deep forests and beautiful parks.

The population of Minnesota is mostly of Germanic or Nordic decent, though recent years have seen an influx of other cultures. Minnesota was admitted to the union in 1858 as the 32nd state. It is known for its political involvement and extremely high voter turnout.

The famous radio variety show A Prairie Home Companion was set in Minnesota, though it is probably most famous for the movie Fargo.
