New Jersey was home to Native Americans for approximately 2000 years before the Dutch and Swedes established settlements there in the 1600’s. Later seized by the English, the territory was renamed the Province of New Jersey. During the American Revolutions, several important battles were fought in the area and New Jersey was one of the original thirteen colonies to fight for independence.
Today, New Jersey has the highest population density of any state in the Union as well as the second highest median income. New Jersey’s economy focuses on the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries as well as telecommunications and tourism.
They have several agricultural products as well including nursery stock, vegetables, nuts, seafood and fruits. Several important inventions have come out of New Jersey including the FM radio, the lithium battery, the motion picture camera, the light bulb, and the drive-in movie. New Jersey is home to more diners than any other state in the Country.
