This state was founded by Roger Williams in 1636 and was once the land of the Narragansett Indians. This state is the smallest state in the U.S. but don’t let the size of the state fool you, there is a lot packed into this little state. Providence, the capital and the oldest city, has a plethora of shopping, dining and entertainment.
Newport, an island off the coast, is the site of several mansions that once belonged to famous families like the Vanderbilt’s and Astor’s. Some of the best beaches and beach towns in New England sit along the significant coastline of Rhode Island.
This state is a great place for education since it touts great schools like the Rhode Island School of Design, Roger Williams University and Brown University just to name a few. There is so much history and culture in this tiny state, you have to see it to believe it.
