South Dakota Travel Information

For the outdoor enthusiast, there are few places in the United States better suited to provide the optimal vacation experience than South Dakota. As the home to the largest concentration of public parks, monuments and memorials in the United States, South Dakota has a wide array of outdoor activities to keep even the most avid outdoorsman occupied.

A true outdoor enthusiast could spend weeks alone exploring the wonders of the Badlands National Park. South Dakota is also home to a number of national historical monuments. Nestled in the Black Hills National Forest, the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln look out from Mount Rushmore on the splendor of the landscape below.

For those interested in Native American history, the Crazy Horse Memorial, the world’s largest mountain carving, is also located in the Black Hills.  These are just a few of the vacation worthy sites available in the state that markets itself as “the land of Great Faces and Great Places.”
