When you plan to build your own website, the first step is to select the right domain name for the same. The domain name is the name which makes up the address of the website. It provides the visitors some information about the subject of your site. If the domain name is misleading, it may cause bad impression among your visitors. Using important keywords in your domain name also help to bring quality traffic to your site. So, the selection of domain name is a very important issue which should be dealt with carefully.
There are different types of domain names which may end with .com, .org, .edu, .net or .info. You may select the right domain name depending on the nature of your website. For business websites, the .com or .net extensions should be used. The .edu extension is used by educational institutions whereas .org is used by non-profit organizations. The domain name should be short and easy to remember. There are many places where you can register your domain name, personally I prefer and use Namecheap.com to the ease of use, great platform and cheap prices!
Domain name registration is cheap and easy. Domain names can be registered at as low as $1.99. Before registration, you have to find out whether the name is available for registration. If it is not available, you will have to use other options. After you find the correct domain name, get it registered by paying the required fees to the domain registration company. Generally, registration is given for as many years you want. Sometimes, registration is given for one year at the end of which the same can be renewed. After registration, you have the exclusive right to use that name for the prescribed period.
If you find that your desired domain name has been already taken by somebody else, you may contact the owner to purchase it from him/her. If you want to buy a domain name which has already been registered and has a page rank, visit different forums and websites like Digital Point, Site Point, Namepros, Pool.com etc. and look for similar deals there.
